No authorization is required for travel on behalf of UZH to any EU/EFTA countries. Likewise, no authorization is required for travel to countries and areas with an insignificant, low or medium risk according to the International SOS Travel Risk Map.
Prior authorization must be obtained for travel on behalf of UZH to areas with an increased risk (high or extreme) according to the International SOS Travel Risk Map. Authorization must be obtained both from the line manager and the dean of the respective faculty or the corresponding directorate in the case of Central Services units.
The Travel Risk Map provided by International SOS is applicable when assessing the risk of travel abroad on behalf of UZH. Before traveling to such areas, you must request a risk assessment from SOS International.
In addition, for travel to areas with extreme security risk, separate insurance coverage must be obtained from Chubb via the Safety, Security and Environment Office: info@su.uzh.ch
For travel abroad on behalf of UZH to remote areas where it would be difficult for emergency services to reach you quickly, the Executive Board of the University also recommends that you obtain authorization and take the same preparations as you would take for travel to a high security risk area.
Preparations for travel to remote areas must be made in the same way as for travel to “high” risk areas, bearing in mind that it could take emergency services considerable time to reach you in the event of an emergency, and that you will not have easy access to medical assistance. The “remote" category is not listed as a risk level on the Travel Risk Map. The assessment is made by the traveler independently or after consultation with Safety, Security and Environment.
