Revised version as per 1 January 2025.
At the University of Zurich, line managers generally hold an appraisal and development meeting with their team members once a year 1.
The annual employee appraisal (EA) is important for all participants. Line managers can use it to evaluate their team members’ performance and conduct and guide them in such a way that they achieve both the organization’s goals and their own professional goals in the future. For employees, the EA is an opportunity to receive an appraisal of their performance and formulate goals and expectations of their work and behavior. If required, specific development measures are agreed with them. The appraisal helps to ensure that employees are deployed correctly, forms the basis for any salary increases and evaluations in employment reference letters, and is an essential document in general, for example if employment-law measures are ordered.
