Articulatory Dynamics in Speech Imitation and Synchronization

Supervisor: Dr. Daniel Friedrichs

Summary

This project aims to explore the articulatory dynamics involved in speech imitation and synchronization. The focus will be on understanding how speakers naturally adapt their articulatory movements during these tasks, offering a window into the complex mechanisms of speech motor control. By utilizing Ultrasound Tongue Imaging (UTI) and Electromagnetic Articulography (EMA), the study will capture detailed movements of the tongue and other speech articulators as participants engage in imitation and synchronization activities.

Requirements

  • For MA students: Involvement in data collection using UTI and EMA, requiring a foundational understanding of these technologies.

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and programming languages (e.g., MATLAB or Python) for data processing and model development.
