Phonetics & Speech Sciences studies the production, acoustics and perception of speech and voice. It is particularly concerned with the variability of speech between different languages, space, time, social groups, situations and individuals. It relies on expertise from a variety of disciplines such as linguistics, neuroscience, computer science, engineering, psychology, medicine, biology, law, a.o.
Our group carries out theoretical and applied research on a wide variety of speech and voice phenomena. We offer courses in phonetics for several study programs at UZH and maintain a dedicated library as well as speech laboratory facilities.
